Meet the Hanker — a tool we’ve put to the test every day here at Junction Fiber Mill.

Designed to make skein handling faster and more consistent, the Hanker efficiently twists six skeins at a time into uniform, beautiful hanks. After years of refining and testing multiple versions in our working mill, this has become an irreplaceable part of our process.

The Hanker is made locally in Vermont using locally sourced cherry wood and custom-built aluminum components, combining durability with thoughtful design. It’s a hardworking, no-frills tool — and a perfect addition to your mill or dye studio.

FAQs

The Hanker

What are the dimensions of the Hanker?

The Hanker has an overall working length of approximately 45 inches and is designed to sit securely on standard sawhorses.

The end supports measure approximately 13¼ inches tall and 30" wide. Total weight is approximately 33 pounds. Final dimensions may vary slightly from piece to piece due to the nature of small-batch production.

How many skeins can the Hanker handle at once?

The Hanker is designed to twist up to six skeins at a time into consistent, even hanks.

Is the Hanker powered or electric?

No. The Hanker is a manual tool — no electricity required. It’s designed to be efficient, quiet, and reliable in a working mill or dye studio.

How is the Hanker mounted or used?

The Hanker is designed to be used with standard sawhorses (not included). This allows for flexibility in setup and easy storage when not in use.

Some assembly required.

What materials is the Hanker made from?

Each Hanker is made in Vermont using locally sourced cherry wood and custom-built aluminum components, chosen for durability and long-term use.

Who is the Hanker designed for?

The Hanker is ideal for fiber mills, yarn dyers, and studios looking for a faster, more consistent way to prepare hanks for sale or finishing.

Payment, Shipping, and Production

Is this a pre-order?

Yes. This listing is for a pre-order deposit. Once 25 orders have been placed, production will begin.

Is the deposit refundable?

Deposits are non-refundable once production begins, as they directly fund manufacturing. If the 25-order minimum is not reached by April 3, 2026, all deposits will be refunded.

When will I be charged the remaining balance?

You will be invoiced for the remaining balance of the Hanker plus shipping once your Hanker is ready to ship.

Is the Hanker eligible for free shipping?

No. Due to its size and weight, the Hanker is not eligible for free shipping.

How much does shipping cost?

The Hanker is not eligible for free shipping, even if your order would otherwise qualify for free shipping on our site.

We currently estimate $85 for shipping and handling. The final shipping cost will be calculated once your Hanker is ready to ship and will be included in your final invoice. Because shipping costs vary by destination, if there is a significant difference between the estimate and the actual cost, you will be invoiced accordingly.

When will my Hanker ship?

Production is expected to take 1–2 months once the order minimum is met. We’ll provide updates via email throughout the process.

Do you ship the Hanker internationally?

At this time, the Hanker is only available for shipping within the United States.

What happens if the minimum number of orders isn’t reached?

If we do not reach the 25-order minimum by April 3, 2026, production will be canceled and all deposits will be fully refunded.
