Mill Worker — Full Time

The Position
The Mill Worker position is an entry-level role at Junction Fiber Mill with a strong focus on dyeing. You will start with mill assistance tasks—hanking, labeling, skein winding, packaging—and, with training, work up to operating our large machines (carder, pin drafter, spinner, etc.). This role includes dyeing wool 2–3 days per week following JFM recipes and quality standards. You’ll support JFM’s manufacturing by running production equipment, scouring wool, dyeing wool, packaging/labelling, and following safety procedures, all while embodying Junction Fiber Mill’s core competencies. You’ll also contribute to broader JFM safety, facilities, and quality goals.
Pay
- Training period: $21.00/hour
- After training: $24.25/hour (upon demonstrating competency operating all machinery and the ability to open, close, and operate the mill solo)
Hours
- Minimum 32 hours per week, including one weekend day
- Daytime shifts; specific schedules set with the team and may vary with production needs

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Follow all established procedures and adhere to safety protocols
- Dye fiber/wool 2–3 days per week per JFM specifications (mix/measure dyes, maintain logs, color-match, rinse/finish, and dry)
- Learn to operate and maintain picker, carder, pin drafter, spinner, skein winder, and hanker
- Mill assistance: hank, wind, label, and package yarn; move materials between stations
- Learn to scour wool and ensure fiber cleanliness ahead of processing
- Ensure accuracy of job labeling and tracking
- Learn to pick and pack orders using Shopify and ring up orders using our Square POS system
- Represent the mill to visitors and give brief tours when needed
Minimum Job Requirements

- Must be 18 years or older

Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 50 lbs with assistance; 25 lbs frequently
- Stand for full shifts; regularly bend, reach, lift
- Occasional stooping; climbing steps and step-ladders
- Wear hearing protection (provided) during loud operations
- Communicate effectively in a loud environment
- Wear a face mask while working with dyes
Work Environment
- Loud environment due to running machinery (hearing protection provided)
- Work with raw wool
- Summer humidity may be high to support processing

Uniform / PPE
- No jewelry or loose/dangling clothing around machinery
- Long hair tied back
- Hearing protection when loud equipment is on (provided)
- Face mask + gloves while handling dye powder (provided)
