Our Roots yarn is made with a blend of soft wool (mostly Corriedale) from flocks in the American West or South America (more info). Scoured and combed at Chargeurs, it is dyed, pin-drafted, spun, and finished at our mill in Vermont. This non-superwashed, non-mulesed yarn pairs beautifully with our Making Tracks line of variegated yarn, which is made with the same base.
Made in small batches at Junction Fiber Mill in White River Junction, Vermont
Care
Wet-Blocking Care Instructions
Your project isn’t truly complete until it’s had its first wash! Here’s how to help our yarns reach their full potential:
Fill a sink or basin with cold water.
Add a small amount of no-rinse wool wash.
Submerge your knitted item, gently squeezing out any air bubbles to ensure it stays fully underwater.
Soak for up to 10 minutes. While our dyes are tested for colorfastness, some dyes are notoriously difficult to set and may release a small amount of excess color.Using cold water, gentle wool wash, and a short soak will help prevent color redeposit on light-colored fibers.
Drain the water.
Gently lift your knitted item from the water and remove excess moisture by rolling it between clean, dry towels with light pressure.
Lay flat and shape to air dry.
For projects with contrasting colors, we recommend steam blocking to avoid any color transfer.

Founded by Friends
Junction Fiber Mill was started in 2020 by two friends and sheep farmers, Amanda and Peggy. United by a shared passion for fiber, we created a mill that produces high-quality, breed-specific yarns with love and dedication.
I absolutely thrill to the gorgeous tones and textures of the Junction Fiber Mill Roots yarns - these shades combined to make a masculine palette for this improvised lap shawl my husband loves!
I absolutely loved knitting this project with three JFM yarns. It's a combination of Roots (Bachelor Button), Making Tracks (Leaves in the Brook), and Mill Blend (blues mix). All three yarns were a delight to use from first stitch to last. The Roots yarn was my favorite of the three. Perfect density, perfect texture, perfect squishiness, and a beautiful color.
I this yarn is working PERFECTLY so far! I needed a Dk weight solid and variegated for my project and weirdly was having a hard time finding it in non superwash at my local yarn shops until I found this place online!!! I’m new to knitting- but this shop will definitely become a staple for me!!!
The yarn is so bouncy and soft. It was really lovely to work with. The color is a gorgeous ochre color that reminds me of light hitting the forest floor through the trees.
Made the Florence hat with the Aubergine heavy DK weight and a leftover ball of cream wool! Turned out so fab, I ordered more to make the Florence sweater next with Aubergine as the main color and cream flowers!
The heavy DK weight worked up quickly and made this sweater a fun and relaxing holiday project. The yarn is warm and drapes nicely. I am so pleased with how my project turned out with my Junction Fiber Mill yarns.
These cowls will be Christmas gifts. They’re adapted from the Pressed Flowers pattern by Amy Christoffers. I’m really enjoying the pops of color. The first is made using Teal with it and Leaves in the brook. The second is Sea glass and Ochre. All are dk weight.
I love the hand and warmth of this wool. It always feels good on my arthritic hands. I watch your Millcast faithfully, and love knowing what’s happening in your small business. The maple candy enclosed in each order is a definite bonus!
My daughter and I discovered Junction Fiber Mill at the Sheep and Wool Festival in Rhinebeck NY this past Fall and fell in love with this lustrous yarn! I’m making the Cinnamon and Bourbon sweater by Baby Cocktails for her. It feels good in the hand and the subtle variation in color adds liveliness to this very substantial yarn. This is quality that makes me think of vintage sweaters and should last generations.
Love this yarn. The colors are stunning and knowing the care Junction Fiber Mill puts into their yarns makes it that much more special!!! It is also a dream to know with. Highly recommend.
This is my current Roots lite stash. Look at those colors! I was obsessed with Bachelor Button blue ever since I saw the video of it being spun and I couldn't resist the other beautiful colors so got some of each.
I’m very excited about this lovely worsted yarn! I have been wanting to make DRK’s Gib sweater for several years and just didn’t find the right yarn. This color and luster on the solid blue is so pretty. More pics to come. ;)

Yay! Can't wait to see it knit up in this pattern!
Knitted the Green Mountain’ Knitters guild pattern for the VT Sheep and Wool Festival 2025 - Lindal Turritella. Love the yarn it is perfection. Going to make another one for the hubs so he can be in the pic at the festival!
This is the yarn I got in the Holiday Box. I enjoyed working with it and making the Lindal Turitella scarf. It was hard to stop knitting! All those short rows require you to pay attention though. Lots of counting. :) The yarn is softer than a lot of wool yarns I've worked with and I don't think it will be scratchy against my skin although I haven't tested this out yet. I really like the colors that came in the box. They remind me of either snow or white sands and a beautiful sky at sunrise/sunset.
